Mel Bradshaw |

Mel Bradshaw was born in
Toronto Ontario, and
completed his B.A. in
English and philosophy at
the University of Toronto.
He continued studying
philosophy – mostly ethics
and aesthetics – at New
College, Oxford. |

Mel’s
first novel was the
critically acclaimed Death
in the Age of Steam is a
historical mystery set in
Toronto in 1856. It was
named ForeWard Magazines
book of the year. His second
book, Quarrel with the Foe
is the first in a series of
police procedural set in
Toronto in the 1920’s. |

James Hawkins |

James Hawkins is the author
of the Inspector Bliss
novels. James was a police
commander in the U.K. for 20
years and a Canadian private
investigator for a further 8
years. He was also director
of education at the Canadian
Institute for Environmental
Investigations. His debut
novel, Missing: Presumed
Dead (2001), was shortlisted
for the Arthur Ellis Award
for Best First Novel. James
divides his time living part
of the year on Vancouver
Island and half the year
traveling in England and

Gail Bowen was born Gail
Bartholomew in Toronto, she
learned to read by age three
from tombstones in Prospect
Cemetery, a facility that
was extremely useful when
she was struck by polio two
years later. She was
educated at the University
of Toronto (B.A.),
University of Waterloo
(M.A.), and the University
of Saskatchewan, where she
almost completed a Ph.D.
Gail is an Associate
Professor and Head of the
English Department at First
Nations University of
Canada. |

are nine books in the series
to date. Deadly Appearances,
Murder at the Mendel and The

N. J. is the author of nine

medal at graduation; and a
Certificate in Education

Lyn Hamilton is the author

of Toronto where courses in
cultural and physical
anthropology inspired her
interest in ancient
cultures. Lyn worked for six
years as the Director of the
Ontario Cultural Programs
Branch responsible for the
licensing of all archeology
in the province. |

Illona Haus published her
first mystery, Blue Mercy in
2005. Blue Mercy is the
first book in the Kay
Delaney series, police
procedurals set in
Baltimore. Illona’s
interest in Baltimore began
with Homicide, Life on the
Streets. The series
intrigued her so much she
posted a query on an online
newsgroup requesting more
information about the city. |

This query
lead to a friendship between Illona
and a Baltimore Homicide
Detective Sergeant. The
friendship led to a romance
with one of the Sergeants
detectives and the romance
lead to Illona taking up
residence in “Charm City”
for the next ten years.
Now back in Waterloo Ontario
Illona is hard at work on
the second book in the
series, Blue Valor. |

Maureen Jennings |

Maureen Jennings’s is the
author of a series of
historical police
procedurals set in Toronto
in the Victorian era
featuring Detective William
Murdoch. The first novel,
Except the Dying, was
shortlisted for both the
Arthur Ellis and the Anthony
first novel awards. |

The
influential Drood Review
picked Poor Tom Is Cold as
one of its favourite
mysteries of 2001. And Let
Loose the Dogs was
shortlisted for the 2004
Anthony Award for best

Maureen was born on
Eastfield Road in
Birmingham, England and
spent her formative years
there until she emigrated to
Canada at the age of
seventeen. She attended the
University of Windsor where
she attained a BA in
philosophy and psychology
followed by an MA in English
literature from the
University of Toronto. She
taught English at the
Ryerson Polytechnical
Institute for the next eight
