Photos, Part 4
After glancing through a few more, I realized I could write an entire guide on photos alone. What do you do when there are two guys in one photo? Are they too cheap to get their own ad? Is this a package deal? Could it be their way of coming out of the closet? Now Siamese twins are a whole different matter, but as far as I could see, these guys weren't attached anywhere except for the single brain they both seemed to share.
One more then I will have said my piece. I know this computer age thing can be complicated and if you don't know much about it, it can be a pain in the butt. However, one thing you should learn, is how to post a photo that has not been stretched out like Gumby. I saw one where I thought the guy was the center for a pro basketball team, but on closer inspection I realized the photo had simply been distorted. I think he was actually 5'5" but was trying to give us the illusion that he really didn't fall "short" in the height department. Another one looked liked the guy was really an anorexic stick figure. Again, on close examination, it was just a squooshed, unnatural pixelie thing going on.
So, if you are unsure how to use the computer, scanner, digital camera, and yes, the cell phone, do what everyone else does, call the nearest five-year old to help!
Note: If the person has more dots on his face than a box of dominos, don't delete him/her right away. He may not have the chicken pox or a bad case of acne. It could be that the photo was scanned at a very low resolution. (Like 4, maybe 5 dpi)
All right, all right. I have picked on the men's photos long enough, but it was so much fun. However, I can't let the women get off that easy here, either.
I haven't spent a ton of time flipping through ladies' ads, for obvious reasons, but for the purpose of research and, okay, to check out my competition, I did my fair share.
Most of the photos that women put up actually impressed me. But then again I guess that wasn't a total surprise. The majority of women do try to look their best, (as I'm sure you guys can attest to, as you sit in the living room watching all three sequels of the "Terminator" waiting for your date to do her hair, makeup and wardrobe thingie), so I'm assuming that they carry the "getting ready" part over into their photos.
In general, (either in photos or in person) women are probably more concerned about their appearance than men. Or actually, now that I think about it, maybe it's because we can do more to improve our looks. Guys are pretty much stuck with what they have, to a point. I'm sure we would look twice if a guy wore concealer for those nasty blemishes or eyeliner to accentuate his eyes. Hair options are really limited and I probably would pull a red flag out of my hat if the guy had "pumps" on to help in the height department. I guess that's why they have nice cars to impress us with, huh?
I did happen to notice there were a slew of shots including the kids. I can't sit here and tell you not to include your children in your photo, but the first thing that comes to mind is that the guy might think he's probably going to take a back seat to your kids. You will list in your profile that you have kids, so let them see just you at first glance. The guy might love kids and it's not a problem that you have them, but guys are visual and when they see three people in the photo, they envision three people all the time. If you want to include the little rug rats in your photo, put them on the second page of your ad instead.
